Robert Burns. Scotland's National Bard

The 242 Burns Supper has (over the years) earned a reputation as being an excellent night’s entertainment for the layman and the Burns enthusiast alike. We are very fortunate that we have, and indeed, continue to attract some of the most erudite speakers on the life and works of our national bard - Robert Burns on a year by year basis at our annual Burns Supper.

This is largely due to the fortitude and dedication of Brother Peter Smolarek PM whose own love for the poetry of Robert Burns, has taken him to many other Burns Nights thereby giving him the opportunity to seek out new talent for our own Burns Supper.

Friday 3rd  February saw the lodge hold its annual Burns Supper with a company in excess of 150 Brethren and friends sitting  down to a fabulous three course traditional Burns Supper of Haggis and Neaps  superbly cooked by our resident Chef,  Brother Chris Walker with the vast majority of those present thoroughly enjoying the splendour of the occasion.

The standard of speakers attending was once again of the highest calibre making the 242 Burns supper one of the premier Burns suppers within the Renfrewshire area.

A full and reflective “Immortal Memory” on the life of Robert Burns was proposed by Willie Davy which was well received by those in attendance.

The “Toast to the Lassies” was proposed by a good friend and guest speaker on many occasions here in 242 – Mr Brendan McGuire who entertained the assembled company in his usual brilliant and unique fashion.

The songs of Robert Burns were most ably performed by Mr Allan Gillies and accompanied by Mr Gerry Bacon.

Brother Gary Forbes  SM Proposed a “Toast to the Visitors” to which Brother Craig Kerr RWM of lodge Renfrew County Kilwinning  № 370 graciously “Replied”

Brother John Stobo   our WSW  had the honour of proposing a vote of thanks to those Brethren who ( once again ) made the Annual Burns Supper here in 242 an unqualified  success, after which the assembled company  were invited to rise to  their feet to sing the “ Star of Rabbie Burns”  bringing to an end a  truly magnificent night in  lodge 242 .
