Brother William Cassidy

Mrs J. Cassidy and Councillor John Kenny

On Thursday 5th October the completion of the re-generation of the Rankine Street area of the town was marked by a small ceremony attended by approximately 60 or so of the town’s people - all present to pay their respects and join in a tribute to William Cassidy, a much respected Brother of lodge Houstoun St Johnstone who sadly passed to the Grand Lodge above in April of 2005. - Local councillor (Bro) John Kenny and Mrs Jessie Cassidy had the privilege of unveiling a plaque and by naming a street Cassidy Drive in honour of Brother Willie

Brother Willie received a diploma marking 50 years membership of the lodge in 2003, although he did not seek high office, he was an active member within it, he also had a long association with the local junior foot ball team, Johnstone Burgh where he was match secretary and president. - He was by nature, a quiet modest man, who would have probably been a little embarrassed at the thought of a street in Johnstone being named after him, but in retrospect  the naming of a street is a fitting tribute to the “standing” that Brother Willie held,  both  within the lodge  -  and  the  town of Johnstone.
